Marcus Kruger, Trevor van Riemsdyk among Blackhawks left unprotected in expansion draft

After over a year of speculation, the Blackhawks and the rest of the NHL revealed their protected lists for the upcoming expansion draft for the Vegas Golden Knights. From the Hawks perspective, there were no surprises in who was left vulnerable to joining the Knights for their inaugural season. Center Marcus Kruger and defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk were among the most notable names left unprotected by the Hawks who are under contract next season or beyond. The Hawks would like to shed the contract of Kruger, who carries a salary-cap hit of approximately $3.1 million.
